How Instagram Stories work
Instagram Stories are short posts that disappear after 24 hours, and Instagram protects them more tightly than regular posts. That is why Story downloads are limited: this tool does not log in to Instagram, and it will never ask for your password. If a Story link needs a login, the tool will tell you honestly instead of showing a fake download.
What to try
- Copy the link to a public Story, highlight, or post if you have one.
- Paste it in the box at the top of this page and tap Download.
- If the result is a public post, you will see a preview and a download button.
- If the Story requires a login, use the public Reel, photo, video, or carousel version of the same content instead.
Stories, highlights, and privacy
Highlights are saved Stories shown on a profile, and they follow the same login rules as Stories. Private Stories, close-friends Stories, and Stories from private accounts cannot be downloaded here. Please respect the person who posted the Story, and do not save or share private content.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my Story link show a login error? Instagram requires a login for most Stories. This tool works without a login, so it can only return public posts that Instagram makes available without one.
Can I download a Story without an account? Only if Instagram serves that content without a login. Otherwise the honest answer is no, and no password should ever be entered here.
What can I download instead? Public Reels, photos, videos, and carousel posts from the same account usually work, and they are covered on their own pages.
Is it free? Yes, using this page and the tool is free.
Why most Story links cannot be downloaded
The honest answer is simple: Instagram Stories usually require a login, and this tool does not log in to Instagram and never asks for your password. A Story link pasted here will therefore usually return the message “Stories cannot be fetched without an Instagram login.” That is not a broken feature — it is the tool refusing to pretend it can fetch something Instagram has locked behind a login.
Expired Stories also cannot be fetched, because they no longer exist on Instagram after 24 hours. Highlights follow the same login rules as Stories, and private or close-friends Stories cannot be downloaded here at all. Never enter your Instagram password anywhere on this site.
Example input guidance
A Story link usually follows the pattern https://www.instagram.com/stories/USERNAME/CODE/ — but note that the tool will reject links containing /stories/ with the login message above. If the same moment was also shared as a public post, copy that post link instead: it will usually follow the pattern https://www.instagram.com/p/CODE/ or https://www.instagram.com/reel/CODE/.
What to download instead
Public Reels, photos, videos, and carousel posts do not need a login and can be saved here. Use the Reels downloader for short vertical videos, the photo downloader for images, the video downloader for feed videos, and the carousel downloader for multi-item posts. See the About page for the full limits of this tool.
More questions about Story downloads
Will the creator know I tried to download a Story?
Downloading is not part of this tool for Stories, because login-required Stories are not fetched. Only save content you own or have permission to keep.
Can I download an expired Story?
No. Once a Story has expired and is gone from Instagram, there is nothing for the tool to fetch.
Should I use a site that asks for my Instagram password?
No. This site never asks for a password. A site that asks for one should not be trusted with your account. See the Terms and Disclaimer.
This Instagram Story Downloader page keeps that limit in plain view, so you know before you paste a link what the tool can and cannot do.
